Last F2 race for Russian Time

Artem Markelov finished the final Sprint race of the 2018 F2 season where he started it – seventh, after a tricky afternoon without the use of DRS around the Yas Marina lap with its two long back straights.

Russian Time team mate Tadasuke Makino was unable to finish the race after an early lap coming-tother with Pertamina Prema driver Sean Gelael. The race was won by Antonio Fuoco, ahead of Lando Norris and Roberto Merhi.

In the championship table, Artem finishes fifth, behind George Russell, Lando Norris, Alexander Albon and Nyck De Vries; Tada is a creditable 13th and the team calimed fourth position, behind Carlin, ART and DAMS.

Artem Markelov: «I didn’t get the best start but managed to pass my old team mate Luca Ghiotto. I then got stuck behind Deletraz and with my DRS not working properly there was no way I was going to get by. It didn’t stop me trying but you saw what happened – I had straight-on moments at both Turn 8 and Turn 11! Finally, I’d just like to say a sincere thank-you to all the guys and girls in the team who have worled so hard these past years.”

Tadasuke Makino: «Well, it wasn’t the way I was hoping to finish my F2 season, retiring on the first lap! I guess these things happen and the best thing for me to do is reflect on a good year in which the highlight was definitely my reverse-strategy win in the Monza feature race! The team has done a good job and I think I can be proud of scoring points in almost half the races.”

Svetlana Strelnikova (Team principal): «It’s a shame that Artem was denied the opportunity to do any more overtaking by a DRS problem. But these things happen in racing and I’m sure many of his moves will live in the memory! Congratulations to Tada on a really solid first year at F2 level and to every member of the team on what has been a fantastic journey for us all. This is Russian Time’s last race and we want to thank our fans for all their support.”
